Michael Rothman was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. He attended the State University of New York at Albany and graduated cum laude in 1983 with a bachelor of arts in education and sociology. Thereupon, Mr. Rothman relocated to South Florida and attended the University of Miami School of Law, where he graduated with honors in 1986.

From 1986 to 1990, Mr. Rothman worked as an associate attorney at the firm of Ress, Gomez, Rosenberg, Howland & Mintz, P.A., concentrating in the areas of commercial litigation and banking law. In 1990, he became a shareholder in the Law Office of Rosenberg & Rothman, P.A., where his practice focused on civil litigation, real property transactions and probate law. In 1994, Mr. Rothman formed Rothman & Tobin, P.A. with Michael S. Tobin and expanded his area of specialty to include title insurance litigation and real estate development law.

Mr. Rothman is considered an expert on matters pertaining to title insurance law and related litigation, having long served as outside counsel for nearly all of Florida’s leading title insurance companies. He is an active member of the Florida Land Title Association and speaks regularly for FLTA and national seminar-producing companies, including NBI. Most recently, Mr. Rothman has lectured on these topics: Claims Avoidance and Insuring Against Real Property Malpractice: Practical Tips for the Unwary; Ethical Considerations for the Real Estate Practitioner; and Privileges Among Insured, In-house Counsel, and Retained Outside Counsel.

Mr. Rothman is a Florida Supreme Court certified mediator specializing in contract disputes, commercial litigation and real property cases. In 2010, he became certified as a Residential Mortgage Foreclosure Mediator.

Mr. Rothman is a member of the Florida Bar and its Real Property, Probate and Trust Law Section. He lives in Weston, Florida, and is married with a son and daughter.

Michael S. Tobin, Esq. has been a Member of the Florida Bar since 1992, following his graduation from the Nova Southeastern University Shepard Broad Law School. He is a shareholder at the firm of Rothman & Tobin, P.A, with offices in North Miami and Coral Springs, Florida. The firm, in existence since 1994, specializes in all types of real property issues, from residential to commercial transactions, banking and mortgage financing, real property litigation, foreclosure and landlord/tenant disputes. The firm is an agent for many title underwriters in the State of Florida, and handles a substantial amount of closings each year. Mr. Tobin also specializes in the representation of real estate professionals in ethics and arbitration disputes in front of various real estate boards.

Mr. Tobin serves on the Mortgage and Encumbrance Committee and the Real Property Litigation Committee of the Real Property Probate and Trust Law Section of the Florida Bar. He is a Board Member of the North Dade and the Beaches Real Estate Council. He is an Executive Council Member of the Florida Region of the Anti-Defamation League; and a Member of the Young Presidents Division of Mount Sinai Medical Center.

Mr. Tobin has lectured extensively in the past to Florida Bar groups, Real Estate Councils, banks and real estate professionals regarding all facets of real property law.


Ellen Patterson

Ellen Patterson is a North Carolina native. She graduated from Duke University in May of 1998 with her Bachelor of Arts degree, having majored in Political Science and minored in Economics and Italian. Even during her undergraduate years, Ms. Patterson was actively involved in her legal community. She not only procured employment at the university’s law school but also served as a law clerk at a local North Carolina firm specializing in litigated commercial transactions, personal injury and medical malpractice.

Passionate about pursuing her legal career, Ms. Patterson relocated to South Florida in August of 1998 to attend the University of Miami School of Law. She perfected her research and writing skills by serving as an assistant for the Miami Law School Library and also by clerking for a small downtown Miami law firm dedicated to litigation. After graduating with her Juris Doctor degree in May of 2001, Ms. Patterson obtained an associate attorney position with a national law firm and gained invaluable experience. She joined Rothman & Tobin, P.A. as an associate in March of 2004. Ms. Patterson is a member in good standing of the Florida Bar, licensed to practice in the state of Florida and in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida. She is also Lexis-Nexis certified and currently focuses her practice on contested and uncontested real estate transactions, title insurance litigation, general real property law, contracts and probate.


Paula Levy

Paula Levy is a New York native, who graduated from the State University of New York at Binghamton in 1994, with dual bachelor degrees in Philosophy and Law and Society. In 1994, Ms. Levy relocated to South Florida, and attended the University of Miami School of Law, where she graduated in 1997.

Ms. Levy originally joined Rothman & Tobin, P.A. as a law clerk in June 1996, then as a junior associate in August 1997. She left the firm in April 1998 and went on to practice foreclosure, bankruptcy, construction and community association litigation, first with Faber & Gitlitz, P.A., in Coral Gables, and then with Siegfried, Rivera, Lerner, De La Torre & Sobel, P.A., in Coral Gables. Ms. Levy returned to Rothman & Tobin, P.A. in August 2007, and is presently a senior associate, concentrating in the areas of title insurance litigation and real estate law.

Ms. Levy has served as a seminar presenter for the National Business Institute, in the areas of foreclosure and repossession, and has co-authored cumulative supplements for the textbook, Florida Construction Law, by Steven M. Siegfried as well as various construction law seminar materials. Ms. Levy is a member of the Florida Bar, and has been admitted to practice before the United States District Court in the Southern and Middle Districts of Florida. She presently lives in Boynton Beach, Florida, with her son and daughter.


Javier I. Gomez

Javier I. Gomez was born in Miami, Florida. He attended Stetson University and graduated in 1995 with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. He then attended St. Thomas University School of Law and graduated in 2002.

Javier has been practicing real estate law in the state of Florida for over 6 years. He concentrates his practice in various areas of residential and commercial real estate law. He represents sellers and purchasers in connection with the acquisition and disposition of numerous types of real property.
